“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
We can trust in God’s plan. Even when things take a terrible turn for the worse, we can trust that God is still in the driver’s seat. He has a plan. We might not see it and the path may be bumpy, but we can rest assured that God won’t let us down.
Having Faith in God’s Plan
I’ve always been fascinated with the story of Joseph (starting in Genesis 37). Very early on, God tells Joseph, in a dream, that He has a very special plan for Joseph’s life. However, the plan doesn’t materialize for years. Yet, Joseph’s faith in God’s intentions never seems to falter despite what happens to him. Look at what goes on before Joseph ever sees any inkling of what God promised him:
- His very own brothers betray him and plot to kill him.
- He gets sold into slavery and taken away from his homeland.
- He’s convicted of a crime he did not commit.
- He is thrown into an Egyptian prison.
- He is forgotten by the man he helps set free.
For years, it seems like God too has forgotten about Joseph. His circumstances go from bad to worse. If Joseph walked by sight, he surely would have been convinced that God had abandoned him.
But, Joseph was a man of incredible faith. He believed in God’s goodness and plan despite what was going on around him. He never gave up. He trusted God until the very end. I’m sure he probably had his moments, but he never let himself quit believing.
Never Give Up on God
You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
Genesis 50:20 NLT
When tragedy and hardship strikes in your life, it can be easy to feel jilted by God. But, here’s the thing with God, He can take even the worst of circumstances and turn it around. He can take what was meant for evil and make it into something incredibly good. We can trust that God has a plan!
