Yesterday, I wrote about HOW I want to copy Jesus, but I should probably back up and clarify WHY I feel copying Jesus is the way to go.
I believe that copying Jesus is the ONLY path to a truly peaceful, satisfying and fulfilling life.
The Reasons I Decided to Change
Let me explain how I arrived at the conclusion above.
I tried living like everyone else. Here’s what I found:
- People are fickle – their emotions and attitudes change daily.
- The world is volatile – you never know what will happen.
- Money is fleeting – it can be here today and gone tomorrow.
- Success is relative – when is enough, enough?
- Health is delicate – we’ve all witnessed this.
I’m not being negative here. I’m just being honest about reality. Circumstances change in the blink of an eye and this bothers me.
You can lose everything you’ve built here on Earth in a matter of moments. I’ve seen it happen. Maybe it has even happened to you or someone you know.
In addition, I’ve always felt there just had to be a little more to life than what I was experiencing.
Then I ran across what King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, said:
I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward for all my toil. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:10-11
When I read this, I immediately thought, “That’s what I’ve often felt.”
It feels like I’m chasing after the wind. That I’m building my life on things that are meaningless or that could slip right out from under me at any minute.
Keep in mind, all the time I felt this way, I was a Christian. I believed in Jesus and I had prayed the prayer of Salvation. However, I was still following the worldly model for living. I was primarily chasing after the affection of people and my personal comfort (success, money, pleasure, etc.).
As I spelled out above, I eventually realized that all these things are very unpredictable and unstable. They are like chasing after the wind.
I Choose to Copy Jesus
All of this is why I now choose to copy Jesus instead of blindly following the world. I believe He offers a better way. One that I can count on.
If you can relate to any of what I’m saying here, then stick with me. Tomorrow I’m going to elaborate on why copying Jesus is the better way to live.
Have you experienced any of the feelings I mentioned above? If so, please let me know that I’m not alone by leaving a comment!
