Thus says the Lord: “Make this valley full of ditches.” 2 Kings 3:16 NKJV
When you are stuck in a valley, a low place in your life, often the answer is to dig ditches.
The Concept Behind Digging Ditches
What are you praying about? What difficulties or tough situations are you facing? That’s likely the exact place where you need to start digging some ditches.
What do I mean by digging ditches? I mean that’s where you need to do some hard work. Hard work that is aligned with God’s commands.
- If you are struggling financially, then look at how God says to handle money and work hard in that direction.
- If your marriage is in trouble, then look at God’s design for marriage and make that valley full of ditches.
- If you can’t get ahead in your career, then look at what you need to do so God will bless your work and then do it.
- If you seem to have general trouble in your life, then maybe you need to seek out God’s guidance on forgiveness and work hard to let go of bitterness and resentment.
Whatever it is in your life, seek God’s guidance and then do the work!
I’ve seen God honor my obedience time and again. When I make a valley full of ditches, in accordance with God’s instructions, then He pours out His blessings and gives me the favor that I long for. But, I have to dig the ditches first.
Be Strong and Do the Work
Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you… 1 Chronicles 28:20 NIV
So, let me ask, “What ditches do you need to dig?” Where do you need to surrender and do the hard work in obedience to God? If you are strong and courageous and you do the work, God will not fail you or forsake you. Time to dig some ditches!
