I think we often fail to recognize the real power of our God. We underestimate Him. This causes us all kinds of trouble.
We Forget Our God’s Greatness and Power
Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant — the Ten Commandments. Exodus 34:28 NIV
God is not confined to the laws of this world. Look at the text above. It tells us that while Moses was in the presence of the Lord, he neither ate nor drank for 40 days! Moses should have died on that mountain from dehydration if not from something else. But, God sustained him. The Lord isn’t bound by our physical needs. He can make happen whatever He wants.
Even after Lazarus was dead for four days and stunk to high heaven, Jesus simply called to him and Lazarus walked out of the tomb. The words of our Lord alone are greater than we can comprehend. We see this in the first chapter of Genesis:
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:3 NIV
All it took was God’s Word and there was light where before there was only darkness. In the same way God created the heavens, continents, plants, animals, sun, moon, stars and man himself. He spoke all that we know and see into existence with all its complexity and wonder. He did all this in six short days. It has taken us centuries to create what we call science and medicine and still we are only scratching the surface in terms of understanding God’s Creation.
If God is able to do all this, then he can surely meet our needs and answer our prayers.
Remind Yourself of God’s True Power
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. Exodus 34:29 NIV
God writes His own rules. He is so powerful and amazing that simply being in His presence made Moses’ face shine with radiance. Again, unexplainable things happen when God speaks. He defies the logic and reason of my simple mortal mind. I don’t know about you, but I need to stop underestimating the power of our God.
