Today, in America, we celebrate our Independence Day. The day we became a free nation.
However, there is a greater freedom we, as Christ Followers, should commemorate.
I encourage you to remember the day Jesus graciously set you free from your slavery to sin and gave you eternal life.
Now that is really something to celebrate! Rejoice and be glad for today is the day the Lord has made.
The Bible says:
But now since you have been set free from sin and have become the slaves of God, you have your present reward in holiness and its end is eternal life..
Romans 6:22 AMP
Not only has God freed you from sin, but He wants to do even more.
God Is the Real Freedom Fighter
God wants you to be free in every way.
He has a history of fighting for the liberation of His people.
Accordingly, say to the Israelites, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will free you from their bondage, and I will rescue you with an outstretched arm [with special and vigorous action] and by mighty acts of judgment. Exodus 6:6 AMP
No matter what you might be facing today. God is fighting vigorously for your freedom.
He will crush whatever is oppressing you just like he crushed Pharaoh.
Jesus is aware of what you are going through and He will deliver you.
The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…” Exodus 3:7-8
The Lord knew the difficult circumstances his people were facing in Egypt. He heard their cries and He fought for their freedom.
He will fight for yours too.
He will take you to a land flowing with milk and honey. A place where you can relax and abide in his freedom.
Have Faith and Rejoice
Be encouraged. There is no one better to have on your side fighting for your freedom. As Paul says in Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
You can rejoice despite what you may be going through.
It might be difficult in your present circumstances to celebrate, but Peter reminds us we have plenty to be happy about:
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 1 Peter 1:3-6 NLT
So, celebrate your eternal independence and freedom! What you are going through now will only last a little while before God liberates you. He will crush whatever is oppressing you.
In the meantime, follow this advice:
Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. Philippians 4:6-7 CEVUS06
Instead of worrying or feeling sorry for yourself. Thank God for what He has done for you and for what He will do. If you do, God will bless you with an unexplainable peace.
Do you have a story of how God has set you free? Please share it in the comments so we can all celebrate with you and so God can be glorified by it.
