Our goal as Christ Followers is to become more like Jesus. We want to copy Him, but not just outwardly. We long to be transformed from the inside out.
Oh, to Be More Like Him
Oh to be like You
Give all I have just to know You
Jesus, there’s no one besides You
Forever the hope in my heart
I love the longing this song expresses. The longing for that transformation. The complete abandonment of self to be more like Jesus. I pray God will instill this desire in my heart.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 ESV
I want to die to my selfish desires so that it is no longer I who live, but Jesus who lives in me.
That’s a lofty goal, I know, but my God is capable of ALL things. He can melt even the hardest heart.
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 ESV
This world takes a toll on our hearts. It hardens us. In many ways, it has made me cynical and calloused. I’ve grown cold and weary. I see struggle and misery around me, but I ignore it. I walk on. I protect myself.
This is NOT like Jesus. He had time for the “least of these”. He came to heal the brokenhearted and to set the captives free.
I pray for a new heart. One that is made of flesh like His instead of the heart of stone I carry now.
Know and Copy the Heart of Jesus
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14 NLT
Through the Word, we have seen what it is to be like Jesus. The Word is an invitation. Through his unfailing love and faithfulness, He offers us the opportunity to be born again into a glorious creature.
I want to copy Jesus. I want to be more like Him.
