The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! Psalm 18:46 NIV
I am like a swimmer in a fast-flowing river. I am easily swept away by the current of this world and my own sinful desires.
Sometimes, I wake up with the wrong attitude and thoughts. Negativity and despondency fill my head. My flesh rises up to control my mind with its selfishness, greed, lust, laziness and ungratefulness. It tugs at me and tries to sweep me away.
I know better, but still I struggle. The current is strong. I feel it trying to drag me away.
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak! Matthew 26:41 NLT
I feel tired emotionally and spiritually. I want to give in. I want to let go and let myself be swept away by the brooding thoughts swirling in my head. But, I’ve been here before.
I force myself to pray. I reach out toward my Savior with the feeblest of utterings. It feels forced. The tide of my thoughts continue to try to tug me out to sea.
Fortunately, the Lord is my Rock! He rises up out of the fast flowing river and grabs hold of me. Hallelujah!
I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 ESV
I tell Him how grateful I am for all He’s done for me. I begin to thank Him for the ways He’s blessed me (a key first step for cultivating gratitude). It is difficult at first. My brain fights to find the words. But slowly, His Spirit guides me and tows me back to the Rock.
My Rock Is Always There to Save Me
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:2 NLT
Fortunately, my Rock is always there. He never leaves me. He is always just a prayer away. I can feel so distant, so weak and so desperate. Yet, if I just call His name, He never fails to rescue me. The Lord is my Rock! He alone saves me.
