Do you have faith in God?
Faith is more than just believing. Look at what James says:
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. James 2:18-19 NIV (emphasis mine)
In other words, James is saying, “Actions speak louder than words.” Your deeds tell everyone (including God) what kind of faith you have.
Real Faith Makes a Difference
Let’s examine what real faith looks like. Here’s what the Bible says about Noah:
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. Hebrews 11:7 NLT
Can you imagine what the other people that lived near Noah must have thought of him? It had NEVER flooded like it was about to.
Yet, by faith, Noah built a boat that was one and a half football fields long! That’s a pretty big deed. A deed that tells a lot about Noah’s faith.
I don’t know about you, but I feel awful convicted right now.
Apparently, my faith is pretty puny.
Here’s another example of real faith:
It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Hebrews 11:17-18 NLT
What God was asking Abraham to do didn’t make sense for a lot of reasons. For one, Isaac was supposed to give Abraham a family “as countless as the sand on the seashore”.
Yet, again by faith, Abraham DID what God told him to do. A deed that seems even crazier than building a giant boat where it had never flooded.
These righteous men knew that faith was a lot more than just believing God exists.
Faith Is Important
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. Matthew 21:22 ESV
See the condition at the end of Jesus’ statement above? Your prayers are powerful if you have faith. And faith is having confidence in God. So much so that you are willing to step out and DO things when God tells you to. Even when it doesn’t make sense to you. Even when others don’t understand or might make fun of you.
The Bible is full of stories about men and women that saw their prayers answered, but only after they stepped out in faith.
