God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8 NLT
There is a lot of talk about gifts this time of year. However, we should never forget the greatest gift we’ve ever received. The gift of salvation that comes from believing in Jesus.
The Gift Offered to Us by God
A gift is something given voluntarily without any expectation of pay back. It is something you haven’t earned, but are freely given.
As I’ve pointed out before, grace is receiving what you do not deserve. God offers an enormous amount of grace through Jesus Christ. And it is a gift. One that is available to anyone that is willing to receive it. Through this gift of grace, we are made right with God and given eternal life.
Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:2 NLT
We don’t deserve it and there is absolutely nothing we can do it earn it. If you have any doubt about this, then please read what I wrote about understanding grace versus good works.
Jesus gave us the greatest gift ever given. He loves us so much that He died for us while we were still sinners (see Romans 5:8). He didn’t wait until we cleaned ourselves up or until we got our act together. No, Jesus freely gave His life when we didn’t deserve it, so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be reconciled to our God.
That’s a pretty awesome gift that’s offered to us don’t you think?
Receive the Greatest Gift
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV
God gave the first and greatest Christmas gift. He gave us Jesus to wash away all the dirt and grime we become coated in while here on earth. This is the best gift that anyone could possibly receive.
