I am convinced that there are seasons where God’s favor rests upon us to accomplish certain things. He opens doors during these periods. He gives us strength. He grants us wisdom and discernment. It is imperative that we recognize God’s will for us in these seasons and act accordingly.
A Missed Season of Favor
The Israelites had been slaves to the Egyptians for a long time when the season arrived for God to deliver them. Up till now, the Israelites were powerless against their captors. However, once the season was right and God’s favor was with them, nothing could stop their march to freedom. Still, they never grasped the significance of the season they were in.
Look at what happens on the doorstep to the Promised Land (See Numbers 13). The spies spend forty days scouting and exploring what God has sworn to give them. They come back confirming that the land flows with milk and honey as God told them, but they let fear hold them back:
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.” Numbers 13:31-32 NIV
The spies were focused on the size of the obstacles instead of the size of their God.
Because they failed to recognize the season they were in, they spent forty more years wandering in the desert instead of enjoying the Promised Land.
Trust God During Your Season of Favor
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5 NIV
God moves in seasons. What is He wanting to do in your life right now? What Promised Land is He offering you? Are you stepping out in faith believing your God will give you the favor to overcome whatever obstacles lie in the way? Recognize the season God has for you and act accordingly.
