Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:27 NIV
Worry is such a draining and fruitless waste. Yet, I admit that I worry too much. And what do I have to show for it? What has worrying done for me?
Recognize Worry for What It Is
I’m convinced that worry is simply a tool that the devil uses to steal our joy and destroy our happiness.
Jesus makes it clear in the verse above that worry is a complete waste of time. It does absolutely no good. It accomplishes nothing, at least nothing positive.
So don’t worry about these things, saying, “What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?” These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Matthew 6:31-32 NLT
I’m convinced that worry is simply a lack of faith. The Enemy doesn’t want us to have faith in the goodness and trustworthiness of God. Therefore, he does his best to inject worry into our lives. He whispers little lies that create anxiety.
As a Christ Follower, we are to take these thoughts captive for Christ. We are to reject the lies of the Devil! God knows our needs and He’s faithful to provide for us if we wait upon Him. There is no need to worry!
The Truth Conquers Worry
Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalm 55:22 NLT
Instead of letting yourself be consumed with worry, fill your mind with praise for God. The way to overcome worry is by reminding yourself of the truth. The truth is that God is completely faithful. He will take care of you. He will not allow you to slip and fall!
