I want to highlight that I used the word participate in the title of this article.
You are not the one in charge of your spiritual transformation. However, you do have to be actively involved.
God gave us freewill. We must choose to follow His course of treatment if we want to get well.
Cooperating in Your Spiritual Transformation
Yesterday, I talked about how our feelings inhibit our spiritual growth. If you want to start down the path toward real transformation, then you have to choose obedience over your feelings.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:24-25 NLT
You have to recognize that your feelings often lead you astray. However, you don’t have to let your feelings dictate your life.
Instead you can decide to follow the Spirit’s leading.
You might say, “Okay, but how do I know where the Spirit is leading me?”
Start with what you do know. For example, you know that:
Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action). So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP
You don’t really suffer from a lack of information regarding God’s will for your life. He speaks to you through the Bible and has provided ample instructions there for how to get a long way down the spiritual transformation road. You just fail to cooperate.
If you feel the Bible doesn’t address your specific situation, then once again you are following your feelings instead of choosing obedience.
Do what God says and He’ll work out the rest.
In Romans 8:28, the Bible reassures us saying, “in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” And who loves God? We are told, “this is love for God, to keep his commands” (See 1 John 5:3).
Therefore, if you want God’s help in straightening out your life, read your Bible and do what it says. You don’t have to understand all of it. Just follow what you do understand. In this way, you demonstrate your love for God. God will then help you with the rest later when you are ready for it.
Your Participation Will Be Rewarded
God wants what is best for you and He has a way for you to receive it. He just needs your participation.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
God is faithful. If you cooperate with Him, He will do His part.
