Staying on the road to the life God wants for us is not always easy.
Jesus himself said:
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:14 NIV
I know that when Jesus said this, He was probably mainly thinking of eternal life. But, perhaps that wasn’t all He meant.
Jesus Is the Gate to Real Living
Look at what else Jesus said:
Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. John 10:9 NLT
The road to salvation is narrow and the gate is small because one must find Jesus to find real life.
He’s the only answer that will do. However, look at that last part of John 10:9. Jesus says that those who travel successfully down the narrow road and discover the gate “will find good pastures”.
In the very next verse, Jesus goes on to say:
I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). John 10:10 AMP
So, I believe that Jesus came not only to give us eternal life, but to give us an enjoyable and satisfying life too. He said so as plain as day.
Narrow Is the Road to Life
The road to the abundant life is narrow. I have to be extremely diligent to keep myself right in the middle of God’s Will for my life.
Jesus gave us a hint about how to do this when he said:
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27 NLT
I have to listen and discern His voice. I then have to follow in faith. His Word is my guidepost along the path to an abundant life.
The road is narrow, but it is not impassable.
Do you believe Jesus wants to give you an abundant and fulfilling life? Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts about it.
