Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus! It is an amazing privilege we have to joyfully proclaim His birth.
Here’s how it was first announced to the shepherds:
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:9-11 NIV
Let this good news cause great joy in your heart! We have a Savior. We are redeemed.
See Jesus with Fresh Eyes
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Luke 2:15 NIV
When I read the shepherds’ response above, I always imagine it said with breathless anticipation.
They were excited! Something BIG was happening. Someone was coming to save them. Their long awaited Messiah was finally here!
If you’ve been a Christian for a long time, it is easy to be sort of ho-hum about the Christmas Story. After all, you’ve probably heard it hundreds of times.
I challenge you today to read it with fresh eyes. Let yourself be amazed by the wonder and power of our God.
Be in Awe as You Celebrate Christmas Today
Don’t let this day slip pass without being awed by the God you worship. He is big. He is wonderful. And He is amazing!
Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone — while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” Job 38:3-7 NIV
You can’t put borders or a box around God. He invaded creation in the person of Jesus Christ to rescue His children from a fallen world. This is astounding!
Be like the shepherds. Be in awe of your God and go proclaim His good news to all that will listen.
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Luke 2:17-18 NIV
Join with me in being amazed by God today and in telling others what you know about this child.
