So far this week, I’ve written about living out God’s plan for your life and how to find comfort for your soul. Today, I want to examine the link between the two.
Get Out of the Boat
Lately, at church, we’ve been singing Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong. The lyrics go like this:
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
So often in life, we keep doing the same thing over and over again hoping for different results. We have the same faith. We live the same routine. We pray the same prayers. We battle the same demons. We go to bed. We get up. We do it all over again.
All the while, we can’t understand why nothing changes. We get frustrated at God because our circumstances never improve. We feel trapped. We keep repeating the same sin. We cry out to God to do something. Help us!
Well, here’s His message for you today.
It is time to GET OUT OF THE BOAT!!!
It is time to let the Holy Spirit lead you into uncharted territory where your faith is without borders. It is time to walk upon the waters. It is time to wander places you’ve never been. Where you feel vulnerable and insufficient. Where you have to TRUST completely in your God.
Do you recall what happened when the disciples saw Jesus walking on water? First of all, the Bible says they were terrified. Even so, look at what Peter does:
Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” Matthew 14:28 NLT
I would have been so scared, I would have probably just begged Jesus to get in the boat. Not Peter. He asks to get OUT of the boat and walk on the water with Jesus! He tries something new. He boldly steps out of his routine and, at least for a moment, believes and trusts in His God completely.
How does Jesus respond to his request?
“Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. Matthew 14:29 NLT
Come! Jesus calls us out of the boat. He calls us into the great unknown. He wants us to live differently, to trust without borders. He wants us to walk on water!
Trust God First and Then…
So, if you want to live out God’s plan for your life, if you want comfort for your soul, you are going to have to get out of the boat and trust God in a whole new way, at a whole new level than you ever have before.
This is what God is telling me and now I’m passing it along to you.
You have to boldly step out on the water. Yes, it will be a little scary because the water can’t hold you up. But Jesus can. Do you trust Him enough to give it a try?
