Imagine that you are wandering in the wilderness. You feel all alone and you are growing cold, hungry and scared. You thought you knew what you were doing when you started out on your own, but it is slowly dawning on you that you are lost.
The very thought sends a jolt of panic through your system.
Trying to Find Your Way and Survive
Your first instinct is to speed up. Try harder. You’ve got to find a way out of this.
Unfortunately, everything you do seems to just take you deeper into the wilderness and further away from where you want to be.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 14:12 ESV
You do your best just to survive, but the situation seems desperate. Everything is so incredibly difficult. Nothing comes easy.
You are so thirsty and hungry. You consume whatever you find, but you never feel satisfied.
Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. John 4:13-14 NIV
Eventually, you begin to think, “It has been so long. Will I ever get back home?”
You would love to find your way out of this mess, but you’ve tried and failed so many times now that it seems impossible. You wonder if there is any hope left to hang on to.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 NIV
You come to the end of your rope. Your strength and ideas are spent. You sit down and give up. You cry out in your helplessness, “I can’t do this!”
A Rescuer Appears
At this very moment, a rescuer appears out of nowhere.
I looked up and saw a white horse standing there. Its rider carried a bow, and a crown was placed on his head. He rode out to win many battles and gain the victory. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Revelation 6:2, 19:16 NLT
Good news! Jesus is your rescuer and He wants to take you home where it is warm, where there is a feast and where you will finally be safe. All you have to do is follow Him out of the woods. He has a NEW way and it will lead you home faster than you ever imagined!
But, you have to trust Him because there are a few scary parts along the trail out of the wilderness. He assures you that He can get you through it, but like so many others, you feel weak and aren’t so sure.
He takes you by the hand and says, “Come, follow me.” (Matt 4:19)
