I want to be blessed by God. I want to receive His promises. I want peace, freedom and joy. I’ve been a Christ Follower for a long time. Why do these things seem elusive?
Blessed Are Those Who Hear and Obey
You receive the blessings of God when you DO the things He tells you to do. Reading and studying God’s Word is great (and very important), but it is not enough. You have to apply what you learn if you really want to reap the full blessing from it.
[Jesus] replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28 NIV
God has really been impressing this truth on me lately. It is one thing to know the right thing to do. It is another to actually do it.
When you put the Word of God into practice, you experience the truth in it. Experience is a powerful teacher. This is why we perform science experiments in school. Actually seeing the results and experiencing them for ourselves changes our minds and anchors the truth within us.
Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:17 NIV
The path to peace, freedom and joy is found by living according to God’s ways. When you live the truth, you reap the blessings it offers. BUT, you have to actually DO what you learn. Hearing is not enough by itself.
The Path to Receiving God’s Blessings
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24 NIV
The blessings I seek seem elusive because I haven’t fully embraced His way of living. I’ve held back. I’ve tried to live the way I thought was right instead of going all in with Jesus. I want to be like the man that built his house on the Rock. I want to hear God’s Word and put it into practice.
