So, God has laid a divine burden on your heart. You’ve prayed about it and feel the Lord is calling you to serve others in some specific way to address this burden. Where do you begin? How do you get started with your calling?
The Key to Start Your Calling
Divine burdens often center around large, complex problems. Things like poverty, child neglect, hunger, family issues or violence. Therefore, it can often be very unclear where and how to start to make a difference.
This murkiness can hinder one from pursuing their calling. You might feel overwhelmed. You might wonder how can you possibly make a dent in such a huge, crushing issue. Well, don’t give up and don’t despair. If the Lord has called you to contribute, then He will provide the way.
The key is to begin. Get started. Do something! Anything.
You have to start small. Do not be discouraged by this. Don’t ask, “What difference will this make?” It takes a small beginning before anything BIG can ever happen. I love this quote:
Start doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible, then suddenly you are doing the impossible. ~ St. Francis of Assisi
Small things make a big difference! Perhaps you look around at church or at a Christian charity and see so much already going on and wonder, “Where can I make a difference?” My answer is wherever you see a need. Does the trash need to be taken out? Does the floor need to be mopped? Can you provide a meal to someone? What about a word of encouragement?
Be humble and willing to start small. Do what is necessary. Do whatever you can do. Help one person. Make a difference in that one life. This is the way to begin.
The Lord Loves Small Beginnings
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin… Zechariah 4:10 NLT
You have to start somewhere. Once you do, the Lord will arrive and show you the next step and the next and the next. One step at a time. There is going to be uncertainty. There is going to be doubt. There is even going to be resistance. But, the Lord rejoices in small beginnings and He will honor and bless what you do. Start small. This is how to begin with your calling.
