We have all sinned. Some of us more than others. But, the quantity or quality is not important. Sin is sin to a holy God. It is all despicable to Him. So, how can a sinner be forgiven and reconciled to God?
The Path to Forgiveness
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. Psalm 51:17 NIV
If you are ready to seek forgiveness and reconciliation with God, then it all begins when you come before Him with a broken and contrite heart. This means that you recognize that you are a sinner and feel remorse for what you have done.
A clear sign that you are truly broken and contrite is a willingness to confess your sin to one or two trusted Christians. True humility is not afraid of the light anymore.
All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. John 3:20-21 NLT
Finally, you must confess your sin to God and by faith accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Jesus is not hard on sinners. Quite the opposite. He came to bind up the broken-hearted and to set the captives free (see Isaiah 61:1).
Jesus Is Ready to Save You
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 NIV
There is no sinner too lost for God to save. God has done His part. Now, it is all up to us. Will we reach out to Him in faith accepting Jesus as our Savior? This is all He really requires. It takes a humble heart to be forgiven of our sin.
