Christmas is a busy time. It is full of traveling, shopping, visiting, eating, organizing and celebrating.
I challenge you today to check yourself. As a Christ Follower, have you spent your time wisely?
A Christmas Example to Follow
The wise men traveled some distance from “eastern lands” to pay their respects to the newborn Jesus.
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Luke 2:11 NLT
There are two things the wise men did on that very first Christmas that I think are important to pay attention to.
First, they were so filled with awe and wonder at the newborn Savior that they immediately bowed down and worshiped Him.
Christmas is a great time to stop for a moment and ask yourself, “Am I still amazed by Jesus? Is He still fascinating to me? Do I worship Him?”
If not, then perhaps you need to slow down to be in His presence for a bit. Get into your Bible and read the book of John. You may have read it many times before, but this time, read it for inspiration instead of information. Read until something stands out to you. When a verse catches your attention, stop and ponder it for a bit. Reading your Bible is not about getting through it, it is about hearing from God. Let God speak to you about how amazing Jesus is!
I’ve been doing this lately and it has really brought back a sense of admiration and wonder in my relationship with Jesus.
The second thing to notice from the text above is that the wise men opened their chests and gave their treasure to Jesus.
Are you giving your very best to Him? Is there a treasure in your life that you are holding too tightly? Something you might adore a little more than Jesus?
You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. Exodus 20:3-5 NLT
We give gifts to everyone at Christmastime. We think and worry about our purchases hoping that we get everyone exactly what they want.
Are you giving Jesus what He wants?
It is something to think about.
Be Wise About Celebrating Christmas
It is not too late! The wise men bowed down and worshiped Jesus in awe of what they witnessed. They also opened their treasure chests in response and gave their best.
You still have time. Follow the example of the wise men. Get close to Jesus and show Him that He’s the center of your Christmas.
