Want a deeper relationship with God? I think every Christ Follower would answer yes to this question, but what does it really mean?
The Path to a Deeper Relationship with God
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:17 NIV
How do you go deeper with God?
What is it that we really desire? Do we want more information about God? Sure, you need the facts. You need to study your Bible and you need to know the information in it. But, is that enough?
If you knew every verse of the Bible by heart, would that alone be the key to a deeper relationship with God? I don’t think so. You can know what the Bible says, but if you don’t apply it, then what good does it do?
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22 NLT
When you study God’s Word, you are looking for where it speaks to you. It should be a transformational experience. The Bible reveals God’s truth to us. These revelations should change us from the inside out. They should make us a new person copying the likeness of Jesus.
It is this metamorphosis that we are seeking. Going deeper means being so moved by the truth and by what Jesus did for us on the Cross that you are literally made into a new person little by little, day by day.
Let God Transform You
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
Going deeper with God is a transformational process. It is a complete overhaul of your mind. It takes this level of complete change for us to begin to understand God’s will. This is how we truly go deeper with God.
