God has been telling me that I only need to be concerned with today. After all, today is the day He has made. He fashioned this day for me. He prepared in advance the good things He wants me to do today. Therefore, I need to forget about the past, stop worrying about tomorrow and just live today as well as I possibly can. This is the path to the abundant and joyful life.
Today Is Where We Need to Be Focused
The principle of living in the present moment is well-founded in scripture. It is not good to dwell too much on the past or to worry excessively about the future. All that is left then is to concentrate on the present — to live the best we can today.
Look at these scriptures:
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead… Philippians 3:13 NIV
We are to forget what is behind. Yesterday is gone. It is done. There’s nothing we can do to change it. What we do today is what matters. It is in the present that we can make amends for whatever lies behind. It is today that we can repent and start anew.
The Bible teaches that we need to let go of the past. It also teaches not to worry about tomorrow.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34 NIV
Again, if we are to forget what is behind and not worry about tomorrow, then what is left? Today is all there is. Today is where we need to focus our thoughts and efforts.
God Gives Us the Strength for Today
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 NLT
When I stay focused on today, I am free from stress, fear and anxiety. I can enjoy life because God gives me the strength I need to face today. He gives me my daily bread. Whatever comes my way today, I can handle it with God by my side. I need to throw off everything else and enjoy this day that God has fashioned for me.
