I’ve said quite a bit lately about how God’s ways are so much higher than our ways. I feel like He is really trying to impress this truth on me. God is trying to make me feel small, but not in a bad way.
It Is Hard to Understand God
And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?
Job 26:14 NIV
When I think about the true power of God, it humbles me. To me, the problems of the world — war, poverty, terrorism, cancer, prejudice, death — they all seem overwhelming. But, none of these are too big for the God that simply spoke and all of creation came into being.
For many human beings, the idea that God created everything is hard to accept. I’ll admit that it is difficult to comprehend a Being whose words alone are powerful enough to create something from nothing. There is no doubt that it takes a leap of faith for us to believe.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
Psalm 8:3-4 NIV
I can only see and comprehend the outer fringes of His works. I hear just a faint whisper of Him. In my human form, I am much too limited, too small to grasp a completely sovereign God.
Think about this. How much of the world can an ant understand? Consider the ant’s perspective. They are tiny. A pebble is like a boulder. Their world is a fraction of the size of our world. Can they understand how we build cars and homes and ships and planes? Compared to God, we are just like the ant. God sees and knows so much more. For example, He knows there are “worlds” beyond what we can see.
I Understand Enough
For, “Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 NLT
God is greater than I understand and that makes me feel small. But, glory to God because He has given us the mind of Christ that we may grasp enough to have faith. A faith that saves! I don’t understand everything, but I understand enough.
