And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow. Revelation 4:2-3 NLT
Our God is greater and more magnificent than I can comprehend. My little human brain just can’t wrap itself around an infinite God.
Have you ever read the book of Revelation in the Bible? It seems pretty “out there” and difficult to understand. I think at least part of the reason is that it was written by a human being. A human being that was trying to describe things so foreign and different from anything he’d ever seen before that it was hard to put into words what he saw.
In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Revelation 4:6-7 NLT
The things that the Apostle John witnessed in heaven were so marvelous and astounding and different from anything here on earth that he couldn’t hardly find the words to describe them to us.
This is how it is with God. His ways are so much higher than our ways that we simply can’t understand all that He’s doing.
As humans, we try to put God in a box. We want to think that we understand. But, if we can’t even grasp the little glimpse of heaven that John shares with us in Revelation, then how on earth do we think we can comprehend God Himself???
God Is Bigger and Better Than I Can Fathom
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Revelation 4:8 NLT
Here’s what I know about God. God is good. He is perfectly good. He is holy and He loves us with a divine love that is also very difficult to understand. We serve a God that is more amazing and incredible than I can even begin to comprehend. Hallelujah!
