There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:4-5 NLT
Never compare what God has called you to do in this season of your life to what He’s called others to do. Your purpose right now may seem bigger or smaller, more important or less important, widely appreciated or undervalued. Don’t get caught up in all that. God has many different purposes for the members of His body. Simply use the gifts that God is giving you and serve Him faithfully.
No Purpose Is Greater Than Another
I have a bad tendency to want to compare what I’m doing to what others are doing. But, I’m beginning to see that this is futile and self-defeating. Here’s why. No matter what you are doing, there’s always going to be someone else that seems to be doing a little more or doing it a little better. The thing is, God doesn’t care about this. Life is not a competition. You are not called to be better than everyone else. You are just called to be faithful with what He’s given you and what He’s calling you to do.
No matter the size of what He’s calling you to do right now, it is vitally important. You are a part of His plan to work all things together for the good of those who love Him (See Romans 8:28). You are a critical link in the chain.
Your purpose may not be the same as someone else’s, but that doesn’t make it less important in God’s eyes.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 1 Corinthians 12:17-18 NIV
None of us can judge the importance of our calling. We don’t have the eyes to see the significance of the way that God has arranged us to form His body. God has many different purposes for us. Our job is to be faithful to whatever purpose we are serving.
