Here’s something I feel the Lord is really trying to impress upon me. Focus on today. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Take things one day at a time.
Live and Pray as God Intended
Give us each day our daily bread. Luke 11:3 ESV
Here’s what I’m hearing from God. In your prayers, just ask for what you need today. Don’t be looking out over the horizon at what is to come and worrying about what you think might be. Stay focused on today. As long as you are okay today, then be satisfied with that.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34 NIV
The Lord tells us that His burden is light (Matt 11:30). I think this is the way that He lightens the burden for us. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow or next week or twenty years from now. You don’t have to carry all of that. All you have to do is get through today and He’s even going to help you with that.
My life is much easier and enjoyable when I meditate on and live out this truth.
You can fret and fuss and worry all you want, but you can’t add a single hour to your life. Take a look again at what Jesus told Martha when she was upset about all she had to do.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 NIV
Few things are needed. We just need our daily bread. Whatever it takes to get through today.
One Day at a Time Is God’s Prescription
I find peace when I focus on today. God supplies the daily bread I need and all is well.
