Yesterday, I talked about how those that hold on to the least are the ones God uses the most.
So, what can you expect when you loosen your grip and give everything willingly to God?
Expect an Increase from God
You might recall from the story of Elisha and the widow that God took her small jar of olive oil and turned it into a miracle.
When you give what you have to God, He turns your little into a lot.
That’s the funny thing about God’s economy. The more generously you give, the greater increase you should expect. I’m not necessarily talking about material blessings – although that can happen. I’m saying that when you hand over what you have to God, He will reward you maybe not in the way you expect, but increase WILL come.
Look at what Jesus says about this:
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. Luke 6:38 NIV
That’s a pretty big assurance from the one that can do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine! (Eph 3:20)
So, when you begin to “hold on to the least”, you should probably do as God says:
Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.
Isaiah 54:2 NIV
In other words, get ready to receive! Make room for more in your heart and life because God is about to make your cup runneth over.
You simply cannot out give God.
Taking a Step Back for a Moment
I think it is worth taking a step back for just a moment here to examine our natural tendencies.
I don’t know about you, but the way I typically act when I’m wanting more is to hold everything I have tightly. I don’t give anything away. I scrape up whatever I’ve got and guard it closely. I then strain – in my own effort – to try to get what I want.
See how this is completely the opposite of what God says to do?
Even as I write this, I realize I need to learn to do things God’s way instead of relying on my own understanding (or lack thereof).
Back to the Bigger Tent
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi 3:10 NLT
No where else in the Bible does God say to test Him. Therefore, this is a pretty special promise. Try it God’s way for a change and you won’t have room enough to take in the blessings.
I want to copy Jesus by holding on to the least, giving the most and enlarging the place of my tent to receive God’s blessings!
