If you asked me, “Do you trust God?” I would undoubtedly say, “Yes, definitely.” However, it is one thing to say I trust Him and another to actually live it out.
Confronted with the Trust Test
Here’s what has occurred to me lately. Copying Jesus really boils down to trust. How much do you trust God? Do you trust Him enough to be totally obedient? Do you trust Him enough not to worry? Do you trust Him enough to give Him everything you have?
Look at what happened when Jesus encountered the rich young ruler:
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:21-22 NIV
Here’s my take on this whole situation. The man was already following God. He wanted to know what he lacked. That’s when Jesus told him to sell ALL his possessions and give the money to the poor. In my opinion, Jesus was testing his level of trust.
What did the rich man trust more God or his wealth?
It was a test and honestly I think I would have probably went away sad as well.
As human beings, it is easy to trust things of this earth more than God. For you, it might not specifically be money. It can be anything. Whatever you hang on to for security, comfort and confidence. It might be a relationship, certain political views, religious traditions, education or even a specific dream for the future.
So, do you completely trust God or is there something you are putting before him?
Growing to Trust God More
LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you. Psalm 84:12 NIV
Personally, I’ve been challenged with this question lately. How much do I trust God? If I really trust Him, why do I act certain ways? It is something I need to continue to wrestle with.
