Hope is lacking in our world today.
The problems seem insurmountable.
On a global scale we have war, terrorism and upheaval. In our countries, we have corruption, moral decay and economic recession. In our families, we have divorce, bankruptcy and violence.
We need an epidemic of hope.
Thankfully, God is bigger than all of this. He is in control. He says in Jeremiah 32:27, “I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?”
Our Role in Creating Hope
You and I know that the only sensible place to put our hope is in God.
However, there are millions of people out there that don’t know where to turn. They are lost and confused. Most don’t even know, or haven’t yet acknowledged, just how lost they are.
As Christ Followers, we are to spread the Good News. The message of hope.
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:18-19 NLT
How do we make disciples of all nations? I am convinced that it is by glorifying God in their eyes.
People are drawn to God when they see the difference He’s made in your life. That’s why Paul told the church in Corinth:
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV
Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. So often we wonder, “How can I make a difference? How can I reach someone for Jesus?”
Paul tells us that we can glorify God in whatever we do. We can even glorify Him while we are eating and drinking. It doesn’t get any simpler than that, does it?
Creating an Epidemic of Hope
We need to passionately declare how amazingly good God has been to us.
We need to let others know that He is the hope of the world. You can do this while you are eating and drinking or whatever you are doing.
YOU can create an epidemic of hope!
Stop worrying that you are going to embarrass yourself or do something wrong. Peter made all kinds of mistakes, but God still used him – in a big way I might add.
We are to be totally sold out to God. Our reputation is not ours to maintain.
You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
Be bold in declaring what God is doing and what He’s already done in your life to bring glory to Him!
Stir Yourself Up to Glorify God
I was listening to Joyce Meyer the other day and she shared a very useful analogy that I’m going to borrow.
Let’s say you have a bottle of salad dressing, the kind that is full of oil and spices. If the bottle sits still, what happens to the spices? They settle to the bottom, right?
That’s the way it is with us. To truly glorify God, we have to stir up His spirit inside us. We have to stir up our memories of what He’s done in our lives. We have to stir up our love and passion for Him.
This stuff settles to the bottom when we let it.
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV
If your walk with Jesus seems a little stale, I can tell you that He hasn’t changed. You’ve let the spices settle to the bottom.
You need to stir up the gift of God inside you so you can bring glory to Him.
You do this by reading His Word, praying, listening to sermons and engaging with other Christ Followers.
Once you’ve stirred up your passion and love for Jesus, then go glorify Him in the eyes of the world!
Let’s Make the Epidemic of Hope Happen
Yes, the world has a lot of problems, but it (and you) have a God that is bigger than all that.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Eph 3:20 NIV
Go spread the word! He is able to immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine! Let his power work through you and you can create an epidemic of hope. Let it spread to all the nations!
