Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 NIV
Today, in the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time to reflect on all the good things you have in your life – a time to be grateful. As Christ Followers, we know that all good things come from God so, we should give our thanks to Him.
Counting My Blessings on Thanksgiving
On this day, I’m always reminded that I should be more thankful every day. I take too many things for granted. Whatever my current circumstances, I know that God has blessed me immensely over the course of my life.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
I’m amazingly blessed by many things, but there are two that stand out in my mind that I can’t give anyone credit for except for God.
First, I’m thankful for the country where I was born. I’ve enjoyed a lot of peace, prosperity and opportunity here in this country. I think of places like Syria, Iraq and North Korea and I’m reminded that not everyone enjoys the same blessings I do simply because of where they were born.
Second, I’m extremely grateful for my great and loving parents. They have always been good to me and gave me a great start in life. Not every child gets parents that love them and look out for their best interests no matter what. I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my parents.
Here’s the real humbling part about these two blessings. I had nothing to do with either one. God decided where I was born and to whom. It all could have turned out very different for me. But, all praise and glory and honor to God for giving me such amazing blessings that I don’t deserve!
Take Time to Give Thanks to God
If you are also celebrating Thanksgiving, then I want to wish you a day filled with joy and peace. If you are in a place that doesn’t celebrate this holiday, then I hope you will still slow down and join us as we take a moment to come before God with thanksgiving!
