To copy Jesus is a radically different way to live. It is so distinct that Jesus likened it to being “born again”.
He was trying to tell us that we need to start over from the beginning to learn a whole new perspective on life. This idea is echoed in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (emphasis mine)
The better way Jesus offers requires a metamorphosis.
Jesus Shows Us a New Way
Jesus will accept you just as you are, but little by little He will transform you into something completely different (if you will let Him).
Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners. Mark 2:17 NLT
I’ve called myself a Christian for years, but sadly my thought-life and way of living was fully conformed to the pattern of this world. I wasn’t healthy. I was sick and in need of a new way of looking at life.
Jesus has been patient with me because it took me far too long to recognize my sickness. But, that’s the way He is – graceful, merciful and loving. He is radically different from the pattern of this world.
Are You Ready for Different?
Jesus stands at the door and knocks. Will you let Him radically change you? The only other choice is to continue to accept the same results you’ve been getting. Are you satisfied with that? I am not.
The world calls Jesus’ way foolishness (See 1 Cor 1:18-31).
You will need to decide for yourself. Will you copy Jesus or side with the world? Remember, you can’t serve two masters.
Jesus wants your complete surrender. He says:
Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. Matthew 16:25 MSG
If you are interested in learning more about this radically different way to live, then please stick around. Tomorrow, I’m going to spell out why copying Jesus is so radical.
