God shows up in your life at unexpected times. If you are not ready, you will likely miss it.
Jesus Calls Us to Stay Alert
It is interesting and very sobering to see how many times in the Bible that we are told to be alert and ready for God. Take a look at what Jesus tells us:
“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.” Matthew 24:42-44 NASB
Jesus will likely show up in your life at a time when you least expect it. Therefore, you must always be ready. Personally, I think the verses above refer as much to everyday life as they do the Second Coming. Jesus tends to show up in our daily lives and it is up to us whether we notice and respond to Him. If you are prepared (expecting Him, looking for Him, waiting, watching) and you are familiar with His ways, then you won’t miss these important times where He reaches out to you.
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Corinthians 16:13 NASB
Even during trying times, we need to be on alert and standing strong in our faith (maybe especially during these trials). These are often when Jesus gives us the opportunity to speak truth into the lives of others.
Be Alert and Ready for Action
Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Luke 12:35-36 ESV
Jesus warns us to stay dressed for action. As Christ Followers, we are to be on alert and prepared to open the door to our Master at anytime. You never know when He’s going to show up. Are you ready?
