Here’s the truth, I am in trouble apart from God. Without His guidance and grace, there is nothing good in me. I need God.
The Truth About Me
And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. Romans 7:18 NLT
Apart from God, I am a slave to my sin. I have nothing to pull me back to the right path. I cannot trust my instincts or intuition because they are corrupt.
Look at what Jesus tells us about the heart of man:
For out of the heart come evil thoughts — murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:19 NIV
Left unchecked, this is where my human heart tends to go. It wants to appease my flesh. It wants to satisfy its own desires.
I’ve said before that I am a messy Christian. I’m not going to lie. I struggle. I wrestle with my sinful nature.
Fortunately, God is always faithful. He is my Rock and my Deliverer. The rescuer of my soul. He saves me from myself. He rescues me from my sinful nature.
If it weren’t for God drawing me in the right direction, who knows where I’d be or what I’d be doing. Actually, I know. I’d be mired in sin. I’d be off ruining my life in one way or another. I’d be chasing after the wind. This is why I believe that copying Jesus is better. Jesus saves me from my sin.
God Saves Me from All My Trouble
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 NLT
I need God because apart from Him I am in deep trouble. I need Him to guide me and keep me away from the sin that wants to destroy me. Thankfully, Jesus is the ultimate cure for all our trouble.
