I’ve covered a lot of ground lately here at CopyJesus.com.
- I talked about becoming a more generous Christ Follower.
- I asked What is enough for God?
- I showed how God turns nothing into something.
- And I pointed out that we need to help rescue others.
Today, I want to try to tie all this together a bit. You might wonder what all these have in common. Well, I think I’ve found a thread of truth that strings it together.
The Truth About God
I created this site as a part of my quest to copy Jesus. I want to follow Him and be used by Him because I believe that’s where the greatest joy, satisfaction and significance in life can be found. I believe that’s the whole purpose of life for all of us.
So, what ties together generosity, giving enough of ourselves to God, the way God takes a little and makes it into a lot and our mission of rescuing others? And what does all this have to do with my quest to copy Jesus?
It is this principle that my pastor shared a few weeks back in a sermon:
Those God uses the MOST are the ones that hold on to the LEAST.
~ Pastor Craig Groeschel, LifeChurch.tv
Read that again and let it soak in for a moment.
Now, let me explain how this truth ties all the thoughts above together.
When it comes to generosity, I believe God wants us to let go and give radically.
On the question of “What is enough for God?”, I believe He wants us to surrender ALL to Him.
In relation to the way God takes a little and makes it into a lot, I think He wants us to let go of whatever we have (even when it seems like nothing) so He can transform it into a miracle to serve His glory.
Finally, as it relates to rescuing others, it is when we submit fully to his plan and intention for our lives that we experience the fullness of life that we so desire.
In every one of these cases, the common theme is holding on to the LEAST bit possible.
The less you hold on to – the less selfishness, greed, control, possessions, expectations, money, comfort – the more God can use you. The more God uses you, the closer you are to copying Jesus.
Holding On to the Least
Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven… Matthew 6:19-20 NLT
I am convinced that the more I can let go of, the better. The things I treasure here on earth are temporary anyway. I want eternal treasures.
I want to hold on to the LEAST bit of this world as possible and let God use me the MOST.
If you can wrap your mind around this truth, it will set you free!
