I’m a strong believer in the power of Christian community. I think we all need face-to-face time with other Christ Followers. And I’m thoroughly convinced that this is a Bible-backed principle.
The Reasons We Cannot Stop Meeting Together
From my own experience, I know that meeting with other Christians on a regular basis is powerful. But, today I want to back up what I think with support from God’s Word. Here are three big reasons from the Bible that we should meet regularly with other Christians.
1. Jesus Will Be There With Us
Jesus tells us, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matt 18:20) This is reason enough to meet with other believers. If Jesus is among us while we are meeting, don’t you think He’s making it a powerful experience? Where else can you go or what else can you do that is more powerful than spending time in the presence of our Lord and Savior? He will be there to supernaturally guide you. I always walk away feeling more peace and less stress. I’m sure His presence has everything to do with that.
2. Jesus and the Early Church Model this Behavior
Jesus had twelve disciples that He met with regularly. He also had an inner circle that was smaller and closer to Him. Our Lord demonstrated this model of living for a reason. This is yet another way that we are to copy Jesus. As proof, we see the early church follow His example. In Acts 2:46, we are told, “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts…”
3. We Desperately Need It
The writer of Hebrews knew that we need the accountability and encouragement that naturally comes from meeting with other Christians.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
Meeting with other believers spurs us on toward love and good deeds. It helps us to live the Christian life that glorifies God.
These are three powerful, Biblical reasons that we cannot ignore the importance of meeting regularly with other like-minded Christ Followers. If you aren’t doing this already, then I strongly encourage you to call a few friends today and make plans to get together soon!
